The major new feature for tweener version 3.0 is the addition of simple box leagues. Players can now create and compete in all-play-all format events. This article gives a brief introduction to some of the features of simple box leagues.
The app has two new menu items: Events and Create Event. The Events page contains two tabs, the first (Other Events) displays nearby events which you are eligible to enter, the second (My Events) lists all events you have entered.
Creating an event
We have tried to make event creation easy with only a limited amount of information required to create a league.
- Name & Description.
- Entry Closing Date: choose how long players have to join event.
- Match Type: two sets & championship tiebreak, or three tiebreak sets.
- No. of Players: this is the preferred number of players you would like for your event. When this number of players join, your event will start. Otherwise, if three or more players join before the closing date, your event will start, too.
- League run time: choose one, two, or three months. This determines how long the players have to complete all their matches. The event will end even if all matches have not been completed.
- Who to notify: send notifications to your friends, your club mates, or random nearby players. All eligible players can see your event even if they don’t receive a notification.
The location of the event is set as the creator’s club. Important note: you will need to add a club to your profile before you can create events.
Entering an event
You can only enter an event if you have a similar playing category to the person who creates the event and are within 20 miles of the event location. You will not be able to see an event in the app if you are not eligible.
Arranging event matches
You have to arrange event matches from within the event page.
The event page has three tabs: information, players, and matches. The third tab shows all the matches that can be played. If you tap on one of your matches that has yet to be organised the app will open the match creation page.
To create the match you only have to choose the date, time, and location. The event information is automatically added to the match. Important note: you cannot create an event match if you touch the Play button on a player’s profile.
This is an experimental feature which we hope to improve in the next release. If you have any comments please do let us know.
A Quick Match is a new way of challenging opponents in version three of the app. If you’re a keen tennis player who is always looking for new opponents, then a Quick Match can help you.
Rather than choosing your opponent, you instead create a match and choose a group of players to broadcast your match request to:
- your friends,
- your club mates,
- or a group of random nearby players.
When you create the match, 10 players from your chosen group will be sent a notification. These players can then view the match and decide whether or not they want to play you. The first person to accept the challenge will be your opponent. Anyone else trying to accept the challenge will be notified that the match is already in progress.
Sorry we have been a little quiet and haven’t released an article in a while. We have been hard at work creating the next version of Tweener Tennis.
Tweener Tennis 3.0
Since we have released the app in June 2014, we have listened to our user feedback carefully and we think Tweener Tennis 3.0 could become an integral part of club life. Our vision is to empower all Tweener users and give them the ability to create their own box leagues and events at clubs up and down the country. This new release does just that. Players will be able to create Grade 6 events at the touch of a button. Challenge your friends, players at your club, or create leagues against random players nearby. Read more about simple box leagues on our blog.
Our other major feature is the quick match. This will allow you to make a match request to a group of players rather than have to choose a particular opponent. Read more about quick matches on our blog.
Finally, you can now share your results direct to your Facebook page so your friends can see the fruits of your labour! Look out for the share button on all your completed matches.
Tweener British Tennis Challenge 2015
As well as adding major new features we are also running our first UK wide event: the British Tennis Challenge 2015. Entries are already open and we hope to get a large entry to make the event a real success. Event entry is via the LTA website – you can find all the links to the event pages on our event page.
Congratulations to Samuel Johnson for winning our Points Make Prizes challenge by winning the most points from February to April.
To celebrate the addition of box leagues to the app, our next challenge is simple! Be the first to create an event with four or more players and get the first two matches in the event complete and everyone in the league will get a mystery Tweener prize!
